Venom Inc.: “Avé” Album Review

Heading all the way back to 1989 and Venom‘s Prime Evil lineup of Jeff “Mantas” Dunn on guitar, Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan on bass and vocals, and Anthony “Abaddon” Bray on drums, Venom Inc. have revived this evil with Venom Inc.‘s Avé.

The title track opens the album with a classical aura and an evil spoken word intro, then heads straight to the jugular with a groove-oriented pummeling.  The song is slow, but heavy-as-hell! “Forged In Hell” picks up the pace to that of an out-of-control freight train. Abaddon‘s drumming is fierce and nothing short of amazing. The chorus is strong and will sound awesome live. “Metal We Bleed” may come across as a bit corny, but the song actually kicks major ass and is an all out thrash fest! “Dein Fleisch” is the first single from the album, and it drew a lot of negative comments about it sounding like some sort of Rammstein spin-off.  Fuck that – this song is an absolute crushing, evil, headbanging feast for the ears. It’s dark and the video is equally tarnished. “Preacher Man” and “I Kneel To No God” are instant shout-along classics and are sure to be in the live show. “Black N Roll” pays homage to metal acts from the past and it’s spectacular.

While Venom Inc. aren’t creating new realms of metal with Avé, they have one monster of a groove oriented thrash album.  I must say this is the absolute best produced album that any faction of Venom has ever recorded.  It is fucking stunning! It’s fun, evil, and crushing.  You need to own this one!

Avé is out now on Nuclear Blast Records. Buy it here!
