Tuska: Problem Solved, No More Kids, Plus, Dimmu Borgir Announced For 2019 Festival

The 2019 Tuska Open Air Metal Festival will be the first ever 18+ entry for the more than 20 year old event.  Announced this week, Tuska 2019 will be making changes so “we are able to get rid of bar areas, making it more convenient getting around with your drink and enjoy the festival with less restrictions.

I have to say, as someone who drinks a shitload of beer at Tuska, this is going to be really nice for getting to enjoy the show and do my job.  (Yes, I drunk work, which is why my photos are fucking awesome)  Apparently there were only 100 underage ticket buyers in 2018 which makes little financial sense for the festival to support considering it costs thousands to set up beer areas with fences, guards, etc.

Eeka Mäkynen, the festival organizer, released this full statement on the matter:

”This is a big change and it will enable us to provide a much improved festival experience for the over 18 crowd. In reality, we are able to get rid of bar areas, making it more convenient getting around with your drink and enjoy the festival with less restrictions. Tuska has been one of the last fortresses for the bar areas, due to under age festival goers.

Unfortunately the number of under-age people buying tickets has decreased every year, and in 2018 there were less than 100 kids. This number does not justify the expenses of having under-aged people at the festival anymore, and when on the other end of the spectrum there are the opportunities this brings to improve the festival experience for everyone else, doing this is a no-brainer. To balance this out, children are welcome to ”TinyTuska”, where all 3-day and Sunday ticket holders can bring a 0-10 year old future citizen of metal to feel the metal festival vibes on Sunday afternoon.”

Cheers motherfuckers!  I’ll see you in the pit with my beer cup!!!

Oh wait, there’s more!  Norwegian black metal legends Dimmu Borgir are the first band announced for next year’s festival!  The guys released “Eonian” this year, the first record in almost a decade.  It seems like they’re back for real, and planning some big things for next year, starting with Tuska!
