Tuska 2020 Announces First Bands: Korn, Children Of Bodom, Insomnium, Vltimas & More

It’s that time of year again. The sky is getting darker, the air is getting colder, and from the chambers of Tuska Open Air Metal Festival headquarters comes the first list of of bands to perform at Tuska 2020!

Tuska 2020 will once again take place at Suvilahti park in Helsinki, Finland. The fest will run from June 26th-28th.

Headlining Tuska 2020 will be the legendary Korn. These guys were a seminal part of my childhood and musical development. I’m into much heavier stuff these days, and I owe that, in part, to Korn opening the door to the heavier stuff.

Korn, “Freak On A Leash”

Joining Korn is Finnish legends Children Of Bodom who will be performing their 2003 classic Hate Crew Deathroll in its entirety. It’s another album that feels like a staple to heavy music for me. Without this record I might not be the musician I am today, and it’s awesome they are going to play this album all at once.

Children Of Bodom, “Needled 24/7”

The mighty Insomnium have also been announced and I’m hoping to hear some of the music off their new record Heart Like A Grave. I’m not able to attend their record release show here in Helsinki so I’m really happy to see they’ll be at Tuska!

Insomnium, “Heart Like A Grave”

Ever since the supergroup was announced I’ve been wanting to see VLTIMAS so I’m really glad they’re coming to Tuska 2020. I’m going to try to take some pictures, but I’m warning you now, they’re most likely going to be blurry…

VLTIMAS, “Total Destroy!”

Jinjer really surprised me last year. I had no idea how talented those musicians are. While metalcore isn’t really my thing, I was seriously impressed by everyone doing their thing and I’m glad they’re coming back a second year in a row.

Jinjer, “Words Of Wisdom”

Getting dirty now, High On Fire will be throwing down this year! Honestly, I can’t wait to have a beer in my hand and my fist in the air for this set.

High On Fire, “Snakes For The Divine”

Apparently there’s also a rave at Tuska 2020… or maybe that’s just Perturbator. I don’t really have any experience with those guys but we’ll see how the “alcohol” hits me and where I’ll be when they take the stage!

Perturbator, Full Set @ Polandrock Festival

Every year at Tuska I try to spend as much time as possible supporting the underground bands. This year Midnight is definitely on my list. They have a groovy black metal sound that I’m looking forward to seeing live.

I’m not big on “rapcore” personally so I don’t have anything to say about Hacktivist. If you’re into this kind of stuff, maybe you’ll find it interesting.

Hacktivist, “Reprogram”

Lastly, we have Skynd. They’re a kind of electronica rock group with rap on top. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure why they’re performing at Tuska, but hey, the organizers always throw in a few weird acts.

Skynd, “Tyler Hadley”

So all in I think there are bunch of good acts announced to get things started! It looks like it’s going to be a good party this year! Who’s coming with me?
