TRIBUNE, ELDER LORE / THE DARK ARTS ALBUM REVIEW!

I will admit-it took me a few listens to appreciate what this BC group is trying to do.  They are blending doom/prog/death/thrash and just for good measure-throw in some Alice in Chains type harmonies.  Vocalist Bryan Baker seems at home singing anything from throaty death growls to hardcore-esque verses and then harmonies.  Song after song on this offering is solid and offers a differing side of the band.

The opening song, “It Came From the Swamp,” starts in a very dark, almost chant-like mode and moves into progressive break after break.  Clearly this band knows which direction they are trying to head-I will sit back and enjoy the ride without judgement!  “The Warrior Mentality,” my favorite on the album, shows influences from Black Sabbath and Dream Theater to Iron Maiden and Lamb of God.  It’s a very cool, riff oriented song!  “We the Black” is also another galloping song that features Baker’s talent in vocals.

The musicianship is extremely skilled-these guys are tight.  Production on the album is also a highlight.  Very well done.  These guys kick ass and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
