In a statement posted from Nergal on his facebook page today, he says, “As some of u know, I’be been battling this bullshit for a few years now. Things r getting more serious and… dangerous. Anyways, looks like freethinking wins over obscurity in the end. If not in Poland, at least in Europe… Read and share. Wanted to thank u for all the words of support and encouragement. This means everything to me. Onward to victory! Hail Freedom!”
This statement comes in response to a statement released by The European Commission on Adam Darski’s blasphemy case. In an article published two days ago by Andrew Rettman of the EU Observer, “The European Commission has said that Poland’s prosecution of a rock group for “blasphemy” is against European values.” Moral win! He continued, “It said on Wednesday (31 October) in a written statement for EUobserver that “national blasphemy laws are a matter for the domestic legal order of the member states.” ”
The nail in the coffin? “It cited the European Convention of Human Rights, a Poland-signatory treaty attached to the Strasbourg-based rights watchdog, the Council of Europe, on freedom of expression.” So essentially the EU uses Poland’s own previous commitment against them. It’s an amazing turn of events that not only is Adam Darski being persecuted for this archaic ideology, but that The European Commission is publicly behind him.
The European Commission is “the executive body of the European Union responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the Union’s treaties and day-to-day running of the EU.” (source, Wikipedia, and confirmed by SkullsNBones‘ in-house political scientist) The significance of the EU Commission making a statement about this case cannot be overstated. Besides the content of it, the commission is saying, “we are watching.”
You know who else is watching? SkullsNBones and the entire metal community of the world. You cannot unjustly persecute our people and our community will not stand for injustice! We’ll keep you updated on this case as it continues to unfold.
