Tuska Open Air

SHE-WOLF’S PRE-TUSKA PLAYLIST

I’m leaving for Finland on Wednesday to attend the Tuska festival, which begins on the 26th. I could not be more stoked, despite my usage of neutral punctuation. Because I enjoy torturing myself, I decided to make a playlist of a bunch of bands I have to wait FOUR WHOLE DAYS to see (first world problems, I know).

TUSKA 2014 SCHEDULE FINALIZED, AFTER-PARTY CLUBS AND BANDS ANNOUNCED!

The date is fast approaching! Soon a sea of black will swarm the streets of downtown Helsinki when the annual Tuska Open Air Metal Festival arrives in late June. From thousands of drunken blonde haired people to the heavy music celebration in the metal capital of the world, this festival is always one to experience. Earlier this month the organizers

TUSKA DAY 3 – THE END

Sadface. :-/ All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately Tuska is no exception. Between the unofficial afterparties (I couldn’t afford the official ones this time around) and the festival itself, Tuska sucked me dry and left me begging for more. This is an experience I’ve come to expect. On the last day of Tuska, I had a

TUSKA DAY 2 – THE RECKONING

My mission for the second day of Tuska would have been to see as many supporting bands as possible, if I hadn’t gotten a message the day before about my precious baggage. I woke up “early” (as early as one can wake up after drinking all night with one’s Rastila friends) and headed straight there, but my trip was delayed

TUSKA DAY 1 – THE RETURN

Yes, there were gnomes with bleeding orifices in the press area. No, I don’t know why. As some of you know, Tuska 2013 was my fourth Tuska. However, it was my first with any sort of press access. While I’m not exactly new to the world of “press,” I am very new to the world of festival press. Getting into

TUSKA DAY 0 – THE ARRIVAL

The most misleadingly tranquil picture of Rastila ever taken. My trip to Helsinki was unusually disastrous this year, and I blame Boston entirely. Looking to save a few hundred bucks, I decided that this year, I would travel to Helsinki by way of Boston. After all, I had the time, and the bus from NYC to Boston only cost about

STRATOVARIUS, LAMA, DREAMTALE, BETRAYAL AT BESPIN ADDED TO TUSKA LINEUP

Finnish power metal giants Stratovarius were added to the Tuska 2013 lineup today, as well as other hometown favorites Lama, Dreamtale, and Betrayal At Bespin. The 3-day festival’s running order has not yet been set in stone, nor has the lineup, but Stratovarius will headline on Sunday, June 30. So far, the Tuska schedule is as follows: Friday, June 28

HAIL OF THE WEEK – KUOLEMANLAAKSO

It almost felt like a cheat to write about a supergroup, but then I realized that Kuolemanlaakso is based in Finland, a country with a lower population than my home city. Kuolemanlaakso is a five-piece death/doom metal band featuring current and former members of Swallow The Sun, Barren Earth, Chaosweaver, Verjnuarmu, The Nibiruan, Elenium, Cult Of Endtime, and Discard. Initially
