Bewitcher: “Under The Witching Cross” Album Review

Bewitcher are a power metal trio who are ripping their way out of the US northwest. Hailing from Portland Oregon, they have been delivering what they self-describe as “heavy metal at the speed of Satan” since 2013 … and they aren’t fucking around. What may sound like a blast from the past to some is as comforting as a warm

Album Review: Alms, “Act One”

Having grown up alongside older siblings in the ’70s and ’80s, I was exposed to perhaps the pinnacle of hard rock/ early metal. Our house flowed endlessly with the sounds of Deep Purple, Cream, Boston, KISS, Alice Cooper, and a plethora of absolutely amazing classic rock musicians who I love and admire to this very day. So taking a listen

Haunt: “Burst Into Flame” Album Review

OK, boys and girls, King Rhino has a scorcher of an album for you! American band, Haunt, and their new LP, Burst Into Flame, have everything any headbanger worth his or her salt is looking for in a record. Haunt is the brainchild of Trevor William Church, who just so happens to be the child of William “The Electric” Church

Haunt: “Luminous Eyes” EP Review

Haunt is the solo project of Trevor William Church, a well-respected musician and the vocalist/guitarist of Beastmaker. His Luminous Eyes EP veers away from his normal doom metal and showcases his guitar talent. Only four songs long, I was left pining for more. I am all for guitar-infused heaviness, and the song “As Fire Burns” thoroughly captures the bad-ass, addictive fretwork.

Lucifer's Hammer - Cover - 2017

Lucifer’s Hammer: “Victory Is Mine” Album Review

Hailing from Santiago, Chile, Lucifer’s Hammer are quite the masterful metal band. Their new release, Victory is Mine, is set for release via Shadow Kingdom Records, and Hades (vocals, guitar), Titan (drums), and Hypnos (guitar) are a tight knit trio of epic metal proportions. Lucifer’s Hammer’s unfathomably dark tracks on this mini-album have an unnervingly smooth liquidity. It reminds me

Venomous Maximus: “No Warning” Album Review

In my reviews of the previous Venomous Maximus albums, I covered their musical style and direction as a sort of throwback to NWOBHM, like early Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, and even Diamondhead. The band continues this path on their third full length release, No Warning, but they add more dimension and distinction that tells their listeners that they own this

Night Demon

NIGHT DEMON “SELF-TITLED”

Hailing from California, Night Demon take their NWOBHM influences and meld them into a sound that is familiar yet original.  While you can clearly hear the Raven, Diamond Head, and Angel Witch influences here, but they have a way of spinning it and making it sound relevant. This four-song EP starts off with the song Night Demon, an introduction to

CORSAIR “GHOSTS OF PROXIMA CENTAURI”

As far as re-issued EP’s go, Corsair’s Ghosts of Proxima Centauri is definitely one of the better ones I’ve ever heard. Normally, when I think of bands re-releasing new versions of old material, a sour look comes across my face. Maybe it’s the lame attempt to re-capitalize on music everyone’s already heard, before while offering not little more than a
