Snares of Sixes, a musical project from Agalloch founding member Jason Walton, defies many of the tenants of metal. The band’s artful, electronic, industrial approach is hypnotic, and the layers of sound tickle unexpected grooves (like the funky guitar trills that are unearthed a minute or so into the track).
The EP’s first single, “The Mother’s Throat,” will surely draw cries of, “This is not metal.” Regardless, it is an interesting, refreshing exploration of sound that is both weird and discomforting.
Snares of Sixes’ debut EP, Yeast Mother: An Electroacoustic Mass, drops May 5 on Crucial Blast. Listen to “The Mother’s Throat” below, and preorder it here!
