Sea Legs: Grutle From Enslaved Is Ready To Cast A Line On 70,000 Tons Of Metal

We are counting down the days to the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise. The boat will embark from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, on February 1 with 3,000 metal heads ready for 120 sets from 60 bands. Yep, it doesn’t get any better that this.

As part of our Sea Legs series, we have taken a few minutes to ask musicians preparing for the cruise a handful of quick and easy questions about their plans for the trip. Today we feature vocalist and bassist Grutle Kjellson from Enslaved.

What is your best “boat story”?
I have many good “boat memories”, but the best cruise-related memory was probably at Barge To Hell in 2012 when me and Necrobutcher were having beers on the pool deck watching Sacred Reich. I very accidentally, and not at all on purpose, lifted him up and threw him in the pool. I thought he wanted me to do that.

What is the must-have gear that you are packing for the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise?
A cyanide capsule just in case I end up in the same cabin as (drummer) Cato (Bekkevold).

What is your must-do activity on the boat or when in the islands?
I would really like to do some fishing on the Islands this time! I know we don’t have much time, but it would be great to spend some hours in the Caribbean casting some lures while drinking cold beers and wearing a big stupid hat.

What song will you be singing for Karaoke on the cruise?
There isn’t enough booze on that boat to lure me into doing that.

If the shit hits the fan and you end up on a deserted island, what is the one metal album you want with you?
If it has to be a metal album, I would take a random metal album cover and hide Selling England by the Pound by Genesis inside of it.
