Even though it’s been over a month, I still find it hard to find the right words to say. The metal community has lost a big part of it as Dave Brockie better known as Oderus Urungus front man of Gwar and Dave Brockie Experience has passed away. This comes as a complete shock and blow to our hearts. Whether you were a fan or not, you knew who Dave was. Never to have stepped on stage to disappoint the crowd, Dave made sure every Gwar show was the most amusing and entertaining thing ever witnessed.
I myself have seen Gwar 12 times and easily can say every show was the most fun show I have been to. As soon as “War Pigs” from Black Sabbath would blast through the speakers, I knew Oderus was about to come out and murder everyone. So many memories at every Gwar show will pass through my mind from now on when I listen to one of their albums. Reminiscing about my first Gwar experience with my best friend Rachel, from that moment I knew I would be a fan for life. 12 years later, listening to them still gives me that feeling that is the same to the first time I ever heard them.
I’m going to end this here and say thank you Dave for always being you. For stepping out in the metal community and showing us all how to have fun in our genre. That it’s not always time to be serious. My world has been forever changed since I became a fan of yours. I hope that you are reunited with Cory and fucking up the afterlife in true Oderus style.
P.S since I am a huge fan, my cat is named after you — Brockie, aka Oderus Purrungus, the most metal cat that ever lived.
