I play a fender P Bass (American Standard with the through body bridge). I use flatwound strings – the Steve Harris kind which are really thick. My amp is a Hartke LH100, and the cab is Hartke Hydrive 410. It’s got a lot of the high end you might be looking for. Truth be told though it has very little warmth and when given the chance I plug the head into an Ampeg cabinet. I don’t use any effects. I just plug straight in and play. I have messed around with a distortion pedal a couple times but I never stuck with it. I like the way a clean sound cuts through. The amps n our practice room are Aguilar DB 680, with some kind of pre-amp through an 8×10. They actually sound really good and I’m able to dial in some specific frequencies which is pretty cool.
