Symphonic metal’s not really my thing. In fact, I sort of fucking hate it. It reminds me of that atrocity from Silent Hill 3. But there is a tiny shred of me that loves even the smoothest Type O Negative songs from October Rust, and I think, “Hmm. Maybe I could get in on this after all. If I start drinking.”
This being my first encounter with Kamelot, the metal elements are present in the music, but a lot of people are in the “Death growls somewhere or GTFO” camp. If you’re one of those, you won’t be interested in “Falling Like the Fahrenheit” off of 2012’s Silverthorn, which was apparently “a masterpiece of grand gestures, gritty melodies and haunting atmospheres.” But if you’re into this symphonic stuff then this isn’t the worst I’ve heard.
In fact, I almost kind of like it…
