Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik Reveal The First Skjuggsjá Single!

Wardruna founder, Einar Selvik, and Enslaved co-founder, Ivar Bjørnson, recently confirmed that their Skuggsjá project signed a deal with Season Of Mist, and that their debut album would be coming out on March 11th. What can we expect? The press release says Skuggsjá is “a meditation on pagan history, on what’s been lost, what can be regained and the power of self-reflection, not least in an age of brute economics, false piety and inane, 24-hour media.” This is a traditional folk metal record, so don’t expect brutality, but expect a beautiful array of musical sounds that create an atmosphere unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Their upcoming album will also feature guest spots from Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson on vocals, Cato Bekkevold on drums, Warduna’s Lindy-Fay Hella on vocals, Eilif Gundersen on birch bark lure and Olav L. Mjelva on harding fiddle, so the talent on the upcoming release is unreal. Thanks to Metal Hammer, you can stream the first single, “Vitkispá“, below right now!

Here’s what they said on this track: “It is with great pleasure and excitement we premiere the first song from our upcoming album «Skuggsjá». Our collaborating work on the album has been a long journey that started first as writing a commissioned concert piece that was performed at the 200 year anniversary for the Norwegian constitution in 2014, and then later presented internationally for the first time headlining the 20th edition of the prestigious Roadburn Festival in 2015. On March 11th the record is out worldwide through Season of Mist and we will finally be able to present the music to an even broader audience!
