Holocausto: “Diário de Guerra” Album Review

Dark extreme metal music has always been a part of my life. From Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Holocausto join the ranks of other extreme metal bands such as Sepultura, Sarcófago and Mutilator with a death thrash sound on Diário de Guerra that is as brutal as it is sinister.

Rodrigo Führer’s vocals are merciless and sadistic and with the savage interplay of riffs, both bass and guitar, conveyed by Anderson Guerrilheiro (Insulter) and Valério Exterminator, respectively. The drumming by Armando Nuclear Soldier (Insulter, Mutilator, and Sarcófago) is nothing short of phenomenal with its raw furious pace. If the combined effect seems to pump your blood faster and your heartbeat feels almost in time to the music, then it is done right.

Although Holocausto‘s lyrics are in Portuguese, you can feel palpitations of barbarity and the absolute horrors of mankind just from a listen. Rather than just pick out a favorite song, Diário de Guerra is worth listening to in its entirety. I’m sure we all have less than an hour to spare to indulge in a versatile, fast-paced and aggressive-as-hell work.

Crank up Diário de Guerra and go for a drive.

Diário de Guerra is out July 31 on Nuclear War Now! Productions. Buy it here!
