You ever hear a band and wish you’d known about ’em sooner? I heard the name HEAVEN SHALL BURN mentioned as a favorite by one of my local scene’s best metal guitarists and neglected to look deeper into it. Now I know why none of the cool kids wanna hang out with me.
Described as “militant” in their egalitarian and eco-conscious views, I can’t help but bite my lip and think, Fuck yes! Not that vegan death-core is anything new, but with a single named for the legend of a noble woman who rode naked to alleviate the exploitative taxation of her subjects, you can’t blame me for being a little excited. Until now, I thought this genre was all about abstaining from animals products. I’m stoked to see a hail to a commonly misunderstood female hero. Even if what she did is just a legend, HEAVEN SHALL BURN make it into an enticing parable about shirking one’s own privilege in order to fight apathy and oppression.
And is that an homage to Killswitch Engage in y’all’s intro or are you just happy to arpeggiate? Not that I’m complaining.
The new album, VETO, comes out on April 30th in North America via Century Media Records. For more, check out the following previously released album tracks:
