Turrigenous are: Greg Giordano (vocals/guitar), Mark “The Sorcerer” Dara (drums), John Vullo (guitar).

Just when I thought I’d heard every thrash band in New York, a buddy of mine tipped me off to Turrigenous. Now, I like to think that I have my finger on the pulse of the local scene, but these guys somehow managed to slip past my radar. Perhaps they aren’t the touring-est band in the city, but that’s only because they’ve been hard at work in the studio. Since self-releasing their 2008 EP A Slight Amplification, they’ve recorded a few demos and a full-length CD. Their full-length debut, titled The Dream And The Resonance – Live, was recorded in one take, and you’d never know if they didn’t tell — it’s just as polished, if not more so, than the majority of other self-released local albums I’ve heard.

Hopefully soon, Turrigenous will return to the stage. Their brand of thrashy prog translates really well to live performance, and I’d love to see them play on the same bill as a band like HUNG one of these days. However, according to a Facebook post to a fellow fan, they’re in the process of finishing some new material so it looks like we’ll all have to wait a while longer for them to start gigging again. In the meantime, thank goodness we have YouTube!
