Being from their hometown of Atlanta, I’ve seen Mastodon live more times than I can count at this point. From small bars in 2001 and 2002, to sold out amphitheaters, their rise in the scene has been absolutely amazing to watch! Now in 2014, they have six masterful records under their belt, toured all over the world, and continue to push their sound to new levels. This week all the talk was about Mastodon and “The Motherload” video, and whether it was sexist or not. I’ve said my piece, and have now moved on, because it doesn’t take away from the incredible music that they’ve brought us throughout the years! I’ve been a die hard supporter for over a decade now, and so for today’s “Flashback Friday,” I’ve found a killer clip from their performance at the historic CBGB’s in New York City back in 2001. They were still getting used to just being a four piece, and finding their sound, but as you can see in the video below, the talent and passion is there, and stays there to this day!
