EXODUS – BLOOD IN, BLOOD OUT

Often you hear the saying “Yes, you can go home again” and Exodus have proven that this statement is not only true but that “Home is Where the Heart Is.”

Their new album Blood In, Blood Out, scheduled to be released next Tuesday, October 14th via Nuclear Blast, is EXACTLY what you would expect from Exodus. The album, which reunites them with singer Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza does not skip a beat and almost makes you feel like this was to be the next album after Tempo of the Damned, except it’s 10 years later and everyone is exactly where they were intended to be.

From the opening track, Black 13, it’s apparent that we are in for a wild ride and this momentum continues throughout the whole album. At times, you feel like it’s 1987 all over again, but you can see the progression of just how far the band has come. The return of Zetro at the helm was chemistry in the making and guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson and drummer Tom Hunting have created an album that everyone will be talking about for a long time to come. The track listing for the new album is as follows:

1) Black 13
2) Blood In, Blood Out
3) Collateral Damage
4) Salt the Wound
5) Body Harvest
6) BTK
7) Wrapped in the Arms of Rage
8) My Last Nerve
9) Numb
10) Honor Killings
11) Food for the Worms

Metallica’s Kirk Hammett makes a guest appearance on the track, Salt the Wound, while Testament’s Chuck Billy contributes his vocals to the song BTK. Hip hop producer, Dan the Automator, who formed a band with singer, Mike Patton of Faith No More called Crudo, is featured on the opening track, Black 13.

I was curious about what this album had to offer and I can honestly say I was blown away from the very beginning. To me, Zetro returning to the band was one of the best moves they could have ever made and while no disrespect to their former singer, Rob Dukes, this album is exactly what Exodus is all about. Make sure you get your copy, you will not be disappointed. My personal favorite track: My Last Nerve.

Exodus will tour with Souza in support of the new album in South America this month and in the US this November and December with Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies. Gary Holt will be doing double duty in both Exodus and Slayer.
