Earlier this year, former Morbid Angel vocalist/bassist David Vincent joined renowned guitar legend Danny B. Harvey on stage in Texas to debut some of his new country material, and as you would expect, people did not know how to react. As most fans were, I was shocked to hear that the death metal icon would be trying his hand at country music, but then I listened to the material, and it’s really damn good. I grew up in the South, so I’ve been surrounded by this type of music all of my life, and I can hear bullshit from a mile away. This music is genuine as hell. Once you get past the idea of this legend not playing death metal and open your ears, you hear the sound that greats like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and many others made famous many years ago. Seriously, it’s really damn good.
So was it a one time thing? Hell no. David and Danny B. Harvey performed a full set over the weekend at Austin’s premier honky-tonk venue, The White Horse, and absolutely killed it. They debuted eleven original tracks, and covered “T for Texas” by Johnny Cash, and “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink” by Merle Haggard as well! Check out fan footage of the entire show below!
