Seriously people, what the fuck is going on here? Cannibal Corpse has been slaughtering audiences for twenty five years. This is a testament to the longevity of legendary acts for sure, but more impressive is the lack of creativity in naming our modern metal bands. “Cannibal Corpse.” It’s offensive, brutal and all around awesome, while letting you know exactly what to expect before you ever hear a note.
Today’s bands are named things like, “Emmure” or “Oceano” or “Five Finger Death Punch.” Has it really come to this? My friend Jason & his crew named their band “IKILLYA” because as he puts it, “all the good band names are taken.” But are they? If you take into account bands I’ve played shows with, for instance “Oily Anal Discharge,” then I would say we’re just running out of creative ideas.
Maybe someone can argue in favor of some awesome band names, but I’m just not seeing it. Either way, Cannibal Corpse has one of the best band names in the game, and they’re 25 years old this year. Congrats guys, keep up the good work! Metal Blade is celebrating by distributing picture disks once a month all year. Details from the press release:
“Metal Blade Records will be releasing one picture disc a month from the band’s expansive catalog (Eaten Back to Life, Butchered at Birth, Tomb of the Mutilated, The Bleeding, Vile, Gallery of Suicide, Bloodthirst, Gore Obsessed, The Wretched Spawn, KILL, Evisceration Plague, Torture). A total of 12 pictures discs will be released, covering all of the band’s full-length studio albums, some of which have never been released on picture disc.”
