Avatar is currently on tour with Babymetal for their last leg of the Avatar Country tour cycle. The tour made a stop at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Illinois where I was able to capture the band one last time.
As the opening band, Avatar had an abbreviated, 8 song set. What stood out to me was even with an abbreviated set, Avatar had complete control over the crowd. The magic that Avatar brings to the stage is so powerful, they can steal the show from the headliner – which they did.
The setlist was no surprise, and full of fan favorites.
Hail the Apocalypse
Let It Burn
A Statue of the King
The Eagle Has Landed
Smells Like a Freakshow
Johannes took a moment to speak to the crowd before they closed with Smells Like a Freakshow to thank everyone for being loyal citizens of Avatar Country, and to let everyone know that Avatar will be taking a break, then going into the studio to record the next album. Personally, I hope the wait isn’t too long.
If you haven’t been able to see Avatar on tour, you really missed out on a great tour cycle. I’m very grateful to have seen, and shot, them four times for Avatar Country. If you missed my prior coverage, check out those galleries at these links:
