In the 10 years since releasing their last full-length, the San Franciscan stoner/doom outfit Acid King haven’t missed a bludgeoning beat. In fact, their newest release, Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere, fits perfectly in their evolution, boasting a more mature dimension to their already-refined sound.
Low bass rumbles and overdriven riffs define Acid King’s sound, and Lori S.’s vocals still swim just beneath the surface, threatening to break through. But where this new release surpasses those in the band’s catalogue is in the detail that emerges through the woozy, spectral guitars that color “Silent Pictures” and the reverb-soaked “Red River” that plies a hypnotic control that is steady and hallucinatory.
It has been a long time since Acid King have delivered new material, but it only takes one listen to Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere to realize that it was well worth the wait.
Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere is independently released (digital) and on Svart Records (CD/vinyl). Buy it here!
